""Ghost in the Shell" is an adaptation of the famous manga, which became a classic animation in 1995. The movie uses action, science fiction, and police drama as a metaphor for issues such as the soul and manipulation of people. This American version, directed by Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"), trades Japanese talent for Hollywood pacing, as well as casting a Western actress in an originally Eastern role. However, Scarlett Johansson's competent performance turns out to be one of the film's great merits."
