Why watch this film?
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won— and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Kevin Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.
"Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 is the first part of Kevin Costner's ion project, a western that he co-writes, directs, and stars in, aiming to emulate the grandest classics of the genre. It chronicles 15 years in the American Wild West before, during, and after the American Civil War. While it achieves its ambitions in aspects like the beautiful cinematography, narratively it is too scattered, introducing subplots that lead nowhere throughout its three-hour runtime. It's the kind of story that would work better as a miniseries (considering it was conceived with a second part in mind, too), but if you enjoy classic westerns in the most eminent sense of the word, there is much to enjoy here."
