A ship's captain makes a bet in a cafe with a friend that he will marry the first woman on board.
"Jacob Stör (Gijs Naber), a Navy captain, makes a bet with a friend: he will marry the first woman who walks into the cafe where they are. That woman turns out to be Lizzy (Léa Seydoux). Suspicions of infidelity and Lizzy's obvious attraction to Dedin threaten to drive the captain mad – creating a story in which this man is adept at his work, but not so adroit at navigating this relationship's back-and-forths. This is the plot of The Story of My Wife, from acclaimed Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, which brings all the necessary elements – love, loss, and madness – to a grand yet tragic romance. Adapted from the book of the same name by Hungarian poet Milán Füst, the feature should please those who enjoy stories that speak volumes between the lines, yet may disappoint viewers hoping for more life in the story."
