Why watch this film?
Refugee family in Sweden faces trauma after youngest daughter falls into unexplained coma when asylum denied. Parents struggle to find cure, resilience tested amid difficult circumstances.
"Quiet Life (2024) is a film by Greek director Alexandros Avranas (ove Me Not, 2017), premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The plot follows a family of four—parents and their two daughters—Russian refugees in Sweden who hope, one day, to have their asylum application approved and become Swedish citizens: they learn the language, send their daughters to school, and work hard. However, when the application is rejected, one of the daughters falls into a mysterious coma, caused by resignation syndrome. Avranas creates a chilling family drama in this film, with people trapped in impossible situations that balance between absurd comedy and an all-too-real desperation, prompting reflection on the complicated realities of so many refugees around the world.
