The first film introduces Shrek, a reclusive ogre living peacefully in his swamp. That peace is shattered when Lord Farquaad exiles fairy tale creatures to his land. To reclaim his home, Shrek agrees to rescue Princess Fiona, who’s trapped in a castle guarded by a dragon. Along the way, Shrek and Fiona fall in love — but he discovers she’s cursed to become an ogre by night. The film ends with their wedding and the curse lifted.
Shrek and Fiona travel to the Kingdom of Far Far Away to meet her parents, who are shocked to learn she’s now an ogre. The couple faces obstacles, including Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother, who try to tear them apart. In the end, Shrek and Fiona prove their love and defeat their foes.
Following King Harold’s death, Shrek and Fiona are named heirs to the throne. Unwilling to rule, Shrek sets out to find Arthur Pendragon, the next in line. Meanwhile, Prince Charming stages a coup with a band of villains. Shrek and his allies stop the rebellion, and Arthur becomes king.
Tired of domestic life, Shrek strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin and is thrown into an alternate timeline where he never existed. In this twisted version of Far Far Away, Shrek must win back Fiona’s heart to restore his world.
Fruit of the character's success in the Shrek universe, the mediocre Puss in Boots doesn't resemble the original green ogre films in almost anything - there are no good jokes like in the main franchise, nor that funny satirical tone. However, the Cat still charms the little ones with jokes and situations well directed to children, always trying to get close to what the Shrek plot achieved. The great highlight is the presence of Humpty Dumpty and the voice work of Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) as the cat that easily transitions between hatred and enchantment.
